About

History of Black Rabbit Theatre

The company was founded in 2011 by three friends, Dan Thompson, James King and Valerie Woodrow - three young artists who were tired of waiting for oportunity and decided to make their own.

Through all the ideas and ambitions the three had for the new company, they didn't have a name. Nothing seemed to sound right.

Then one fateful night, a dear beloved rabbit named Chandler passed away (and yes, she was black). Out of respect for a creature that brought so much joy, the company was named after her. The name seemed to work because it sounds magical. With magic you tend to think of a white rabbit being pulled from the hat. A black rabbit seems a bit off beat. As are we. The name was perfect.
